Groundwater monitoring system installation in Cadaan-gaabey borehole for Humanitarian Water Security and Water Quality Monitoring

Project Summary

  • Client

    Medair (Swiss Humanitarian NGO)

  • Sector

    WASH / Disaster Risk Reduction

  • Date

    July 2025

  • Location

    Adale, Middle Shabelle

Background & Challenge

Cadaan Gaabey’s communities faced escalating water insecurity due to high salinity levels. Medair required:

➔ Real-time salinity monitoring to assess feasibility of desalination
➔ Data to guide water trucking during clan-related conflicts
➔ Proof of aquifer viability before investing in new boreholes

Constraints: Security risks, complete lack of monitoring infrastructure, and risks of saline intrusion.

Our Solution

Deployed an advanced Solinst Levelogger 5 LTC system at Medair’s strategic borehole:

    • Installed telemetric pressure/temperature transducer with ±0.05% accuracy
    • Configured satellite transmission for hourly cloud-based data
    • Camouflaged equipment to deter sabotage
    • Trained Medair staff on interpreting dashboard analytics
