This initiative was organized under the leadership of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen evidence-based planning and accelerate the implementation of the National Transformation Plan (NTP).

The training highlighted how geospatial technologies and data visualization can empower government institutions to make smarter, faster, and more informed decisions for Somalia’s development agenda.

Objectives of the Training

The primary objectives of the training were to:

  • Build technical capacity of the Ministerial Delivery Units (MDUs) on GIS and interactive dashboards.
  • Demonstrate integration of geospatial data into daily workflows to enhance decision-making.
  • Promote evidence-based planning to monitor and track progress of the National Transformation Plan.
  • Encourage collaboration across ministries by using shared tools and data platforms.
  •

Training Highlights

  1. GIS for Governance

  2. Interactive Dashboards
    • Hands-on sessions on building dashboards for visualizing key indicators and progress metrics.
    • Demonstrated how dashboards can present complex datasets in simple, actionable formats.
  3. Integration into Workflows
    • Practical exercises on embedding GIS and dashboards into ministries’ daily monitoring systems.
    • Emphasis on aligning with the National Transformation Plan priorities.
  4. Collaboration and Engagement
    • Active group discussions and exercises encouraged knowledge-sharing across ministries.
    • Participants explored ways to harmonize data practices for cross-sectoral decision-making.

Outcomes & Impact
